The regional delegate of Castilla-La Mancha in Ciudad Real, Blanca Fernández, has announced the II National Tunas Competition, which will take place in the capital on 24 and 25 October. The event combines music, university tradition, and social commitment.

Fernández praised the Tuna Universitaria de Ciudad Real for organising the initiative and for their decision to donate the proceeds to VivELA, an organisation dedicated to raising awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and improving the quality of life for those affected by the disease.

“This competition goes beyond a musical gathering,” she stated, “transforming a cultural tradition into an opportunity to contribute to a social cause.”

She emphasised that the decision to allocate all funds raised during the event to such an important local entity reflects the best aspects of society: a commitment to support those with fewer opportunities.

Fernández also highlighted the need for continued advancements in care for individuals with ALS and their families, noting the crucial role of associations in raising awareness of the disease and advocating for resources. She asserted that “support for people with ALS is not a privilege, but an absolute necessity,” underscoring the importance of ensuring that legislative measures translate into effective and dignified care for those living with the condition.

The Government of Castilla-La Mancha is sponsoring the competition, recognising both its cultural significance and its charitable purpose. This collaboration complements the involvement of various institutions and entities that make the event possible in Ciudad Real.

In addition to its social aspect, Fernández pointed out the potential tourism and economic benefits that the gathering of tunas from across the country could generate. The presence of participating groups and other tunas expected to join the celebration will fill the streets of the capital with music, colour, and a vibrant university atmosphere over the weekend.

Fernández noted the positive growth in tourism in Ciudad Real during the early months of the year, with over 300,000 visitors and half a million overnight stays recorded. She stressed the importance of promoting activities that attract visitors and stimulate the local economy.

Finally, she encouraged the public to participate in the planned activities, particularly at the Teatro Municipal Quijano, where part of the competition will take place, to support the charitable fundraising efforts.
