cha seeks support and recognition for zaragoza's school of lutherie

Isabel Lasobras, Deputy Spokesperson for cha in the Cortes de Aragón and spokesperson for cha in the Education, Science and Universities Commission, stated: “We are facing a strategic cultural project for Aragón, which strengthens our identity, invigorates the cultural economy, and projects us internationally.”

cha is advocating for stable institutional support and official recognition for the School of Violería in Zaragoza, one of only two historical lutherie schools in Spain, specialising in the construction of period musical instruments. The proposal will be discussed on Tuesday, 27 November 2026, in the Education, Science and Universities Commission of the Cortes de Aragón.

“For centuries, Zaragoza was a European reference point for string instrument construction, and now we have a political and moral obligation to ensure that this tradition is not lost. We cannot leave such a valuable legacy to chance or sporadic budgets,” warned Lasobras.

In this context, she has urged the Government of Aragón for “a firm commitment: to guarantee stable funding, to academically recognise the studies offered by the School, and to integrate it into the public network of artistic and technical training centres.”

The three main points of cha's initiative are:

  1. The Cortes de Aragón urges the Government of Aragón to promote, within its competencies, the authorisation of the School of Violería in Zaragoza to provide official teachings derived from Royal Decree 300/2026, of 8 April, which establishes the Higher Vocational Training title of Senior Technician in Design and Craft Construction of String Musical Instruments.
  2. To develop, in collaboration with the School of Violería and the relevant professional sectors, the necessary procedures for the official recognition of the professional competencies and training provided by the centre.
  3. To establish a planning and work schedule for the effective implementation of these official teachings in Aragón, including the needs for funding, facilities, and specialised teaching staff.

Finally, cha insists that consolidating the School of Violería is an investment in the future of a tradition that is part of the cultural DNA of Aragón and Europe.
