During the same plenary session, the unanimous approval of Ciudad Real's candidacy for the recognition as the European City of Sport 2028, awarded by ACES Europe, was also achieved. The candidacy aims to showcase the municipality's efforts in sports, including facilities, municipal services, support for grassroots sports, backing for clubs and sports entities, and the organisation of competitions and events.
The plenary also unanimously approved a proposal from the Popular Municipal Group to support families benefiting from the CUME (Care for Minors Affected by Cancer or Other Serious Illness). This initiative aims to support these families and their representative associations, urging the Spanish Government to ensure effective and uniform application of improvements to this benefit, expedite processing, and eliminate administrative obstacles.
Additionally, a motion presented by the VOX Municipal Group to reject attempts to manipulate the electoral roll was approved, receiving support from VOX, PP, and the independent councillor, while Ciudadanos abstained and the Socialist Municipal Group voted against it. The Socialist Group also withdrew its proposal for the creation of a Municipal Ordinance for Civic Coexistence and the fight against prostitution and trafficking for sexual exploitation in Ciudad Real.
At the beginning of the plenary session, two institutional declarations were approved. The first defends the educational nature of the 0-3 years cycle, public management of the municipal nursery school, and the improvement of its resources and professional conditions. The second, titled “Institutional Declaration Stop Pedestrian Deaths 2030,” commits to reducing fatalities and serious injuries from pedestrian accidents by 50% in cities through measures for road safety, accessibility, and pedestrian protection.
