Clúster Turismo Galicia advocates for cooperation in maritime tourism

The Clúster Turismo de Galicia recently took part in the International Fishing & Tourism Congress, held on 15 and 16 October in Sanxenxo, where it emphasised the significance of business collaboration and networking to enhance the development and marketing of maritime tourism.

The event brought together institutional representatives, professionals, and experts from ten countries to discuss economic diversification opportunities linked to fishing activities and maritime heritage.

Importance of collaboration

During a session focused on networking, cooperation, and governance, the Clúster presented a paper titled "Navegar en flota. Redes, cooperación y gobernanza para el turismo," which centred on the benefits of collaboration for small businesses and professionals involved in marine-related tourism experiences.

It was highlighted that although the Galician tourism sector is predominantly composed of small enterprises, collaborative efforts can enhance their marketing capabilities, facilitate access to international markets, and enable participation in planning and decision-making processes.

Strengthening business networks

The need to strengthen business networks, share resources, and encourage organised dialogue with administrations was underscored. An example of this collaborative model is Galicia Destino Sostible, a product club initiated by the Clúster and the Xunta de Galicia, which unites nearly 200 companies and tourism experiences under a common platform.

This includes maritime and nautical tourism initiatives such as Amarcarril, Amare, and Bluscus Turismo Marinero, which help to highlight traditional trades, maritime culture, and the natural resources of Galicia's estuaries.

Tools for competitiveness

The presentation also addressed the tools that the Clúster offers to the sector to enhance its competitiveness, including joint participation in fairs and professional meetings, digitalisation, training, and support for quality and sustainability certifications.

Finally, the importance of incorporating the needs of maritime tourism into strategic planning and tourism regulations was emphasised, promoting greater coordination among businesses, associations, and administrations. Such collaboration is essential for consolidating fishing and maritime tourism as a complementary activity that can generate new economic opportunities and contribute to the conservation and enhancement of Galicia's maritime heritage.
