Compromís has demanded the immediate resumption of the Les Naus investigation committee in the Les Corts Valencianes, accusing Vox of shielding those responsible for the scandal after leaving the hearings scheduled for 20 and 22 October without a date. María José Calabuig, the coalition's spokesperson for housing, has called for a public timetable to ensure the continuity of the work and clarify responsibilities in the awarding of protected housing that ended up in the hands of officials from the Alicante City Council and the Popular Party's Consell.
It has been 19 days since the committee's president, Vox deputy Ana Vega, registered a request on 8 October to postpone the two sessions, without specifying an alternative date. As of now, the committee has not met for three months. Calabuig believes that the far-right party's stance serves as a "smokescreen" to avoid investigating a case that "reveals the reality of the housing policy promoted by PP and Vox: protecting the interests of a few while citizens face increasing difficulties in accessing housing."
“The days of 20 and 22 October have passed, when we were supposed to resume the investigation into the Les Naus scandal,” explained Calabuig, “and we continue without a new call. Ana Vega must explain when she plans to resume the investigation and why the people of Alicante must keep waiting.”
The deputy rejected the idea that the electoral process should justify keeping the committee paralysed: "Vox justified the postponement due to the elections. Precisely when citizens need to make decisions is when they need the most information. Accountability cannot be subordinated to the calendar that suits PP and Vox. Les Corts cannot close for electoral convenience."
“Vox is proving to be a miserable party,” she continued, “and a puppet in the hands of the most corrupt interests, shielding those we consider politically responsible for this scandal: Mayor Barcala, Carlos Mazón, and Consellera Susana Camarero. The people of Alicante, as well as the rest of the Valencian citizens, want to know the truth and whether public housing policy is once again a tool for looting by the administration for the PP and the far-right,” the spokesperson emphasised.
Calabuig has also demanded that the presidency of the committee put an end to the uncertainty: “We demand a date, a public calendar, and the resumption of all pending hearings. Every week that passes without investigation is another week without answers about what went wrong in the awarding of these protected homes.”
