The Town Hall of Eivissa and the Pitiús Athletics Club will organise the second edition of the Cursa Es Baluards on 7 November. This popular sporting event invites runners of all ages to explore and enjoy the city's historical heritage in a unique way, merging sport, culture, and solidarity in one of Eivissa's most iconic settings.
This year marks the third year of the event; however, it is officially the second edition as last year's race was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. A notable addition this year is the introduction of an official t-shirt for participants.
The main race will cover approximately 5,500 metres, starting at 16:30 from the Vara de Rey promenade, where the finish line will also be located. Participants will complete two laps of a circuit that passes through some of the most significant streets and spaces in Dalt Vila, including Portal Nou, the bastions of Sant Jaume, Sant Jordi, Sant Bernat, and Santa Llúcia, as well as the Cathedral Square and various streets within the historic site.
This unique route allows runners to enjoy a course surrounded by walls, bastions, and historical streets, highlighting the city's UNESCO-recognised heritage while promoting sports participation and community engagement.
The event is open to runners born in 2010 or earlier, both affiliated and non-affiliated, and will feature various male and female categories. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers overall and in each category.
The II Cursa Es Baluards will also include a Mini Cursa, aimed at encouraging physical activity among younger participants and facilitating their involvement in a family-friendly sports day. The children's races will commence at 16:00, featuring a route of approximately 600 metres for the under-10, under-12, and special categories. At 16:15, the under-14 and under-16 categories will compete in a race of about 1,200 metres on an urban circuit starting and finishing at Vara de Rey. Participation in the Mini Cursa is free and will include a special category for athletes from ADDIF, reinforcing the event's inclusive nature.
In addition to promoting sport and valuing the city's heritage, the Cursa Es Baluards has a significant charitable component. Proceeds from the main race registrations will be donated to AEMIF, supporting the social work of this association.
Registrations for both race categories must be completed through the Elitechip platform by 21:00 on 5 November. Participation in the Mini Cursa is free, and all participants will be covered by a one-day insurance policy. Race numbers and chips can be collected exclusively at the Municipal Sports Board's facilities at the Can Misses municipal pool on 6 November from 18:00 to 20:00 and on 7 November from 10:00 to 12:00.
With this third edition, Eivissa continues to promote a sporting event that combines healthy habits, family participation, solidarity, and appreciation of the city's historical spaces, offering a chance to experience Dalt Vila from a different perspective. The event's branding has been completely refreshed, and the final design of the official race t-shirt, of which only 500 units will be produced, will be revealed in the coming days.
