The Eivissa Town Hall is set to finally host the fourth edition of the Tortilla de Patata Roja competition on Saturday, 7 November, at the Vara de Rey promenade, alongside a new edition of the La Verbenita festival. The event was initially postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
The day will run from 12:00 to 00:00 and will be open to both residents and visitors, featuring a blend of gastronomy, local product promotion, and music, all free of charge. The Tortilla de Patata Roja competition is expected to be a highlight, with the Town Hall encouraging families, groups of friends, and cooking enthusiasts to participate.
Interested participants can still register through the municipal portal, Participa Eivissa. Each registered group will receive 5 kilograms of Eivissa red potatoes to create their tortilla, showcasing their culinary creativity and skills. Participants can prepare their cooking space in Vara de Rey starting at 10:30, with the competition kicking off at noon.
Àlex Minchiotti, the Councillor for Markets, expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “We want to encourage everyone who enjoys cooking, regardless of their skill level, to form a team, prepare their recipe, and come this Saturday to show who makes the best tortilla.” The competition will award various prizes linked to local products, with the winning group receiving a basket of local goods valued at €300, the second place a basket worth €200, and the third place a basket valued at €150. Additionally, all participating groups will receive a local product package worth approximately €40.
The gastronomic competition will be complemented by the La Verbenita festival, which will bring music and a festive atmosphere to the Vara de Rey promenade from midday until midnight. Fran Torres, the Councillor for Festivals, highlighted the importance of this rescheduled event, inviting residents and visitors to enjoy a day that combines gastronomy and music in the heart of Eivissa.
Adrián Rodríguez, one of the organisers of La Verbenita, noted, “We maintain the spirit and essence of La Verbenita for this new date. We want people to come from midday, enjoy the tortilla competition, and stay with us to enjoy the music and atmosphere throughout the day.”
The celebration of both events is part of the initiatives promoted by the Eivissa Town Hall to highlight local products, invigorate the city centre, and stimulate commerce, dining, and services during the quieter tourist months.
