Estepona launches competition for seven murals at Padre Manuel Cultural Centre

The Estepona Town Hall has initiated a competition for mural art interventions to transform and enhance various interior spaces of the Padre Manuel Cultural Centre. This initiative aims to create seven artistic murals that will incorporate contemporary art into the building's architecture, turning its walls into new spaces for artistic expression and establishing a connection between the artworks and the cultural and educational activities regularly held at the centre.

Macarena Diánez, the councillor for Culture, explained that the competition includes the creation of murals linked to different cultural disciplines: chess, dance, theatre, painting, literature, library, and music. Each intervention must develop an original artistic proposal, tailored to the characteristics of the assigned space and related to its theme.

The competition is open to visual artists, muralists, art students, and artistic collectives over the age of 18 from anywhere in Spain. Participants may submit projects for one or more of the designated spaces, although each artist or collective can only win in one category. The total prize fund for the competition is €10,000, distributed across seven awards. The murals dedicated to dance and music will each receive €1,650; those for painting and library will be awarded €1,200; and the murals related to chess, theatre, and literature will each receive €900. These amounts are gross and include expenses related to the conception and execution of the works.

Proposals will be evaluated by a professional jury, which will consider the originality and artistic quality of the projects, their suitability for the cultural space, technical feasibility, and relevance to the corresponding theme. Interested parties must submit a dossier containing information about their artistic background and specific documentation for each mural they wish to enter, including a colour sketch, a photomontage of the proposal over a photograph of the space, a conceptual description, and details of the techniques and materials planned.

The deadline for submissions is set for Friday, 20 November 2026, at 10:00 hours. Proposals must be formalised through the Estepona Town Hall's Entry Register, in accordance with the requirements outlined in the competition rules. The seven selected projects will be executed between 14 and 18 December 2026, following the technical and organisational conditions established to ensure compatibility with the normal operations of the cultural centre.

This initiative continues the Town Hall's efforts to promote creativity, support artistic talent, and bring various cultural expressions closer to the public, while also enriching municipal public spaces. Complete competition rules, along with descriptions of the seven themes and technical sheets for the intervention spaces, can be consulted on the Estepona Town Hall's Notice Board.
