sporting entities in l'hospitalet await relocation due to campus project

The sporting entities in L'Hospitalet Nord are awaiting the future relocation of their facilities due to the upcoming Clínic-UB Health Campus project. This development will affect clubs such as L'H Atletisme, Club Baloncesto Sant Josep Obrer, and Pioners L'H.

The new campus aims to transform the Pubilla Cases environment, necessitating significant changes to the existing sports facilities. Plans include moving the sports complex to land close to the Collblanc road, which will feature a new pavilion and two swimming pools—one indoor and one outdoor. Additionally, the athletics track will be relocated to the Feixa Llarga area in Bellvitge.

These changes directly impact the entities currently operating in these facilities. L'H Atletisme, which has produced international athletes and boasts a strong roster, is maintaining its activities but is feeling a mix of anticipation and concern about the future. Club president Josep Maria Piqueras stated, "The city needs a stadium that represents the values and successes of this sport. I believe it is a value worth leveraging, not only for the club but for the city itself." He also mentioned that they are in contact with the local council to collaborate during this transitional phase.

Meanwhile, Manuel Zurera, president of Club Baloncesto Sant Josep Obrer, views the project as an opportunity to enhance local facilities but emphasises the need for clubs to be involved in the design of the new equipment. "I think this is an opportunity not just for our club but for all the residents. The change in the urban development plan will offer many possibilities," he remarked. The club hopes that the new pavilion will accommodate the expected population growth resulting from the area's urban development and that they will have a say in the design should they move their activities to the new sports centre.

On the other hand, Pioners L'H, the American football club that also conducts some training sessions in Gornal, has noted that the local council has yet to reach out to them regarding how the relocation will affect their operations.
