The LaLiga Hypermotion match between Granada CF and CD Tenerife, set to take place this Saturday at Nuevo Los Cármenes, has been postponed following the tragic death of CD Tenerife player Jesús de Miguel Alameda on Tuesday.
In a statement, Granada CF announced, "Following the tragic news of the passing of Jesús de Miguel, the match corresponding to matchday 13 of LaLiga Hypermotion, which was to see Granada CF face CD Tenerife this Saturday, November 7, has been postponed." The club added that a new date for the match will be confirmed soon.
Granada CF also expressed its condolences, stating, "We extend our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of Jesús de Miguel, as well as to the entire CD Tenerife family, sending them strength and support during this difficult time."
The incident occurred during the final minutes of the Tenerife-Andorra match on Monday, when De Miguel suffered a knee strike from the visiting goalkeeper Jesús Owono, who was subsequently sent off with a direct red card. This impact caused De Miguel to lose consciousness and suffer convulsions on the pitch, necessitating immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) from medical personnel present at the stadium.
De Miguel was stabilised and transported to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after suffering a cardiac arrest due to the severe blow. Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated neurologically overnight, leading to his death on Tuesday at 08:00.
CD Tenerife president Felipe Miñambres confirmed on Tuesday that he had requested the postponement of the match from LaLiga. "We have spoken with LaLiga, and Granada has shown full support. We will also speak with the Federation to request postponements for Badajoz and then proceed with Ceuta. We need this time to recover as much as we can," he explained. The team is now expected to compete again on Sunday, November 15, at 14:00 in the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López.
