The Fuerteventura Book Fair is set to host a central day of literary presentations and cultural activities on 17 October, featuring prominent contemporary authors including Patricio Pron, Ángeles González-Sinde, and Jesús Carrasco. The event will take place at the Josefina Plá tent, running from 10:00 until late evening.
The day's programme includes a variety of activities for children, dance, circus performances, and theatre. The literary events will kick off at 19:00 with the presentation of Pron's latest work, En todo hay una grieta y por ella entra la luz, published by Anagrama. Pron will discuss themes of grief, violence, ecological crisis, and the role of art and literature in an uncertain world with fellow author José Ignacio Carnero.
At 20:00, Jesús Carrasco will present his new novel, El detalle, published by Seix Barral, in conversation with journalist Ángeles Jurado. Carrasco's work explores the complexities of long-term relationships and the challenges of maintaining attention and connection amid everyday life.
The literary presentations will conclude at 20:30 with Ángeles González-Sinde, who will discuss her novel Una noche de 1947, published by Lumen. Accompanied by journalist Elena Falcón, González-Sinde's story delves into family silences and post-war wounds through the eyes of a rural doctor trying to understand a child's suffering in a village in Teruel.
The day's activities will commence at 10:00 with a storytelling session for infants titled Al agua, presented by Badabadum, aimed at children aged zero to 36 months. This session will take place in the Children's and Youth Room of the Insular Library Centre, with limited spaces and prior registration required via email.
Further literary activities will include the presentation of Cinistetranomicon de las Estoas by Francisco Rodríguez López at 10:30, and Manual de Invierno by Violeta Chacón at 11:00, among others. The morning will also feature a family show, La isla de las cosas perdidas, at the Palacio de Formación y Congresos.
The afternoon programme will begin at 18:00 with a circus performance, Sinergia Street, followed by Pron's presentation at 19:00. The day will culminate with a theatrical performance of El invencible verano de Liliana, based on the book by Mexican author Cristina Rivera Garza, at 21:30.
The Fuerteventura Book Fair is organised by the Insular Library Centre, part of the Fuerteventura Council's Culture Department, with support from the Canary Islands Government's Cultural Development Institute and the Vice-Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood, and Family.
