Guardia Civil honours professor for contributions to submerged cultural heritage

On 12 October, the Guardia Civil recognised the efforts of professionals and institutions that collaborate with the force during the celebration of its patron saint's festival in the Port of Alicante. Among the acknowledgements, which included 22 decorations and 26 honorary distinctions, was one awarded to José Antonio Moya, a professor at the University of Alicante (UA).

This distinction highlights the collaboration between the University of Alicante and the University Institute of Research in Archaeology and Historical Heritage (INAPH) with the Guardia Civil's Subaquatic Activities Group (GEAS) in protecting submerged cultural heritage.

The Guardia Civil Command emphasised the contributions of various professionals to its mission, including senior officials from the National Police in Elche, local police chiefs from Pilar de la Horadada, Almoradí, and Elche, personnel from the Government Subdelegation, and representatives from the business sector. The UA-GEAS collaboration also includes the excavation of the Roman underwater treasure at Portitxol in Xàbia.
