José López Campos, the Galician Minister of Culture, Language and Youth, attended the closing ceremony of the XIX Certame Galego de Bandas de Música at the Pazo da Cultura in Pontevedra. The event, organised by the Galician Federation of Popular Music Bands with the support of the Xunta de Galicia, celebrated the region's rich musical talent, particularly among the youth.
During the weekend, 17 bands participated in the festival, comprising ten from Galicia and seven from Portugal, with around 1,000 musicians performing across five categories: children, youth, third, second, and first divisions. López Campos emphasised the significant role of younger generations in these musical groups and their contribution to cultural education.
Accompanied by Pablo Fernández, the territorial delegate of the Xunta in Pontevedra, and Jacobo Sutil, director of the Galician Agency for Cultural Industries, López Campos presented awards and diplomas at the event's conclusion, which featured a performance by the Minho Reed Quintet, who played the Galician anthem.
