Madrid city council allocates over 1.75 million euros in grants for theatres and cinemas

The city council of Madrid will provide €1,755,000 in grants to theatres and cinemas with the aim of promoting the development of performing and cinematic arts in the capital. The government board has authorised the expenditure for these subsidies.

These grants, managed by the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport, are awarded on a competitive basis and are intended for both performing arts venues and cinema exhibition spaces. The total budget is divided into two categories: €1,210,950 allocated to performing arts venues and €544,050 designated for cinemas.

The initiative aims to enhance the competitiveness of the audiovisual industry, support the development of talent within the sector, and bolster the cultural fabric of Madrid. The period for the funded activities will run from 1 January to 31 December 2027.

The announcement of the grants will be published at the beginning of 2027, at which point applications from various entities can be submitted. In 2025, more than thirty beneficiaries received funding from these grants, a number that increased in 2026, indicating a growing interest in the support available for the sector.
