Madrid city council approves €15.4 million for birth and adoption grants

The Madrid city council has approved a multi-year budget of €15.4 million to fund a new public call for direct financial assistance for families with children born or adopted between 1 September 2026 and 31 December 2027. This initiative is part of the city's Birth and Reconciliation Promotion Plan for 2024-2029.

Families meeting the eligibility criteria will receive €500 for their first child, €750 for the second, and €1,000 for the third and any subsequent children. The grant is universal, with no income restrictions imposed on the family unit or age limits for parents. However, applicants must have been registered as residents in Madrid for at least five years.

This financial aid can be combined with other similar grants provided by different public or private entities. The budget includes €4.7 million for applications submitted in the last quarter of 2026 and €10.7 million for 2027, with the possibility of an increase depending on demand.

Applications will be open in the coming days, with the specific date to be announced through official channels. The application form will be available on the Madrid city council's website and must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian. It can be submitted either in person or online through the Electronic Headquarters.

Applications must be submitted within two months following the birth or adoption. For cases occurring from 1 September 2026 until the announcement of the call, the two-month period will begin the day after the publication date. Only one application can be submitted per birth or adoption, and in the case of multiple births or adoptions, a separate application is required for each child.

Applicants must be Spanish citizens or legal residents in Spain, have been registered in Madrid for at least five years, and not be deprived of parental rights. They must also not be subject to any disqualifications outlined in Article 13 of the General Subsidies Law, with exceptions specified in the call.

The Social Policies, Family and Equality Department is responsible for processing the applications, supported by a collaborating entity. Once eligibility is confirmed, the grant will be paid in a single instalment. This direct aid initiative aligns with measure number 39 of the Birth and Reconciliation Promotion Plan 2024-2029, which guides municipal policy on maternity and paternity protection and support for families in raising children while balancing personal and professional lives.
