Mar Dabán Aguayo has taken office as the new deputy for employment, commerce, tourism and regional administration in the Foral Deputation of Álava. The ceremony took place at the Casa Palacio of the Foral Deputation, presided over by the general deputy Ramiro González, and attended by other members of the regional government, the president of the General Councils of Álava, Inma Basterra, and spokespersons from various political groups.

Dabán, who holds dual degrees in Law and Business Administration, brings a strong legal and economic background along with extensive public management experience as an inspector for Labour and Social Security in Álava and as the subdelegate of the Spanish Government in the region.

During the ceremony, Dabán pledged her commitment to the role in both Euskera and Spanish, using the traditional formula: “I promise to defend the fueros, good practices and customs of Álava, symbols of self-government and freedom, in the pursuit of justice.”

Ramiro González welcomed the new deputy, expressing confidence that her work would be beneficial for Álava and would help address the significant challenges facing the region. He emphasised that one of the main challenges for democrats today is to preserve a system of freedoms that meets the needs of society while defending public services and the welfare state.

González assured Dabán that she would have the full support and collaboration of the regional government and encouraged her to work alongside other institutions, stating, “Together we are stronger, and the major challenges can only be tackled through cooperation.”

Dabán succeeds Cristina González, who has stepped down from the position following her appointment as the Minister for Tourism, Commerce and Consumption in the Basque Government. This transition also sees Jon Nogales, the deputy for Sustainable Mobility and Road Infrastructure, taking on the role of first deputy general, previously held by González.

Born in Málaga in 1991, Mar Dabán has a robust legal and economic education and a deep understanding of the labour, business, and social landscape of Álava. Her career in public service has provided her with firsthand knowledge of the region's economic and social fabric, its needs, and the functioning of its institutions. Between 2019 and 2024, she served as an inspector for Labour and Social Security in Álava, maintaining direct contact with local businesses and addressing issues related to employment quality and workers' rights. Since March 2024, she has led the Subdelegation of the Spanish Government in Álava, further enhancing her understanding of public administrations and their relationships with various economic and social sectors in the region.
