The Consell de Mallorca has announced that it will host the first assembly of 2027 for the Alliance of Cultural Landscapes and Related World Heritage Sites in the Serra de Tramuntana during the first quarter of the year. This assembly will bring together representatives from various territories within the alliance to exchange experiences regarding heritage conservation and management.
This announcement was made during a meeting of the Board of Directors and the General Assembly of the Alliance, which took place at the City Museum of Antequera in Málaga. The meeting was presided over by the Councillor for the Presidency, Toni Fuster, and included participation from Antoni Solivellas, the island director of the Serra de Tramuntana.
“The territories that are part of the Alliance have very different landscapes, characteristics, and realities, but we share the same challenge of conserving our heritage for future generations,” said Fuster. He added that “these sessions will allow us to learn from each other, understand different ways of managing heritage, and share solutions to problems that, despite our differences, are often common.”
The assembly will also provide an opportunity to showcase the Serra de Tramuntana, which is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the cultural landscape category, and to highlight initiatives aimed at preserving its heritage values.
The Alliance comprises fourteen sites recognised by UNESCO for their outstanding universal value, twelve of which are located in Spain, one in Portugal, and one in Andorra. Notable sites include the Alhambra and Generalife in Granada, the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, the Cultural Landscape of Aranjuez, the Palm Grove of Elche, the Dolmens of Antequera, Menorca Talaiòtica, and the Serra de Tramuntana.
The organisation aims to promote cooperation among territories, share experiences, and advocate for the conservation of cultural heritage. During the assembly, it was also agreed that the Alliance would participate in the FITUR tourism fair in Madrid and the ITB in Berlin to raise awareness of the World Heritage sites it encompasses. The goal is to ensure visitors appreciate the exceptional value of these UNESCO-recognised territories and to encourage tourism that respects their conservation.
This initiative continues the Alliance's presence at the World Travel Market in London, which was promoted by the Consell de Mallorca in 2025. The institution has also strengthened the international profile of the Alliance with its presentation in May 2026 to UNESCO representatives in Paris, led by President Llorenç Galmés. Among the initiatives undertaken during the Consell's presidency is the organisation of the first European Forum of World Heritage Site Managers, held in Granada in 2025, which brought together over 70 managers from 19 countries. The Alliance plans to participate in the second edition in Bordeaux, France.
