Fuenlabrada hosts event to combat hate speech through culture and communication

Generating new narratives through communication and culture to combat hate speech is the aim of the latest edition of the Debate and Discussion Laboratories organised by the Mesa por la Convivencia in collaboration with the local council. This event is set to take place this evening at 18:00 in the Espacio Jover La Plaza.

Members of the public, social associations, and professionals from the fields of communication and culture will participate in the event, including rapper and communicator Frank T, journalist Ebbaba Hameida, multidisciplinary artist and DJ Megan Mercury, historian and content creator Mikel Hernan, cultural and social journalist Bob Pop, and creator, artist, and writer Enrique Bernabéu. The session is titled ‘Communication and art against hate speech’.

Participants will share experiences and reflections on discrimination based on race, sexual orientation, and disability. The event aims to provide a space for reflection and citizen participation, analysing how culture and communication can serve as tools to foster more just and equal societies that counteract the rising tide of hate speech in recent years.

The Mesa por la Convivencia, composed of over 35 local, cultural, and various other associations, seeks to reaffirm Fuenlabrada's commitment to diversity through these discussions, creating spaces for encounter and coexistence where differences are seen as opportunities to promote empathy and other values in the face of misinformation and societal polarisation.
