The sports season in Marchamalo has officially begun, maintaining a stable registration figure of 3,500 participants, the highest since the establishment of the Municipal Sports Service. This number reflects a consistent engagement in sports activities within the town's facilities.
The majority of users participate in various activities offered through the Adult Sports Programme or as part of local sports clubs, with approximately 1,500 individuals registered. The number of children enrolled in the Sports Schools remains steady at nearly 900, while the Covered Pool at the 'García Fraguas' Sports Complex has surpassed 1,250 registrations, not including swimmers from local clubs.
As autumn arrives, sports activities resume in Marchamalo, where the diverse range of offerings across three expansive sports complexes has contributed to the stable registration figures. The Municipal Sports Service has successfully established an inclusive, affordable, and varied sports programme, allowing the community to reach the previous year's peak of 3,500 active participants. This season also sees the introduction of a new Mountain Biking Sports School and a pump-track facility.
In terms of specific offerings, there has been a slight increase in registrations across all categories compared to the start of last season. The number of children enrolled in the Municipal Sports Schools has risen from 857 to 875 across approximately twenty disciplines. Additionally, registrations for the Covered Pool have increased from 1,202 to 1,256 for swimming courses and free swimming, alongside those involved in sports clubs. Over 1,400 individuals are also registered for various adult activities or through sports clubs that utilise the available facilities.
Among the sports activities, the Municipal Football School continues to lead with a slight increase to 275 registrations, excluding the newly formed second youth team of CD Marchamalo. Other popular activities include the Dance School with over 100 registrations, and mountain sports and volleyball, both exceeding 70 registrations. Notably, fitness activities have also seen strong participation, with 247 registrations for fitness classes, over 200 for cross-training, 169 for wellness, and 133 for triathlon. The padel school has experienced significant growth, with 199 adult and 51 child registrations, thanks to the four covered courts at the 'Llanos Manrique' Sports Complex.
This year, the gym at the 'García Fraguas' Sports Complex will also expand its hours, remaining open for an additional two weeks, allowing around 400 users to enjoy the facilities until 13 August at the same price.
Marchamalo has become a benchmark for affordable sports practice, closely linked to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle since its separation from Guadalajara in 1999 and the subsequent establishment of the Municipal Sports Service. With the town's growth over the past two decades, a sports infrastructure development plan has facilitated an increase in users, surpassing 3,000 before the pandemic and now reaching 3,500 in a municipality of just over 9,000 residents. In addition to the organised activities, numerous public spaces for outdoor sports are available free of charge, including futsal and basketball courts, 3x3 sports areas, beach volleyball, calisthenics, a skate bowl, and the recently opened pump-track circuit adjacent to the Community Space.
