The Cabildo de La Gomera has approved its initial budget for 2027, amounting to €93,570,066.52. The budget prioritises social care, sustainability, public transport, and the enhancement of educational and economic opportunities on the island.

President Casimiro Curbelo stated, “These accounts have a clear objective: to convert public resources into more opportunities and a better life for the people of La Gomera. We want each allocation to address the needs of families, improve services, and support those studying, working, or engaging in activities on the island.”

The budget allocates €16.23 million to social welfare, with €9.8 million dedicated to care for the elderly and dependent individuals in social health centres, and €1.3 million for health-related assistance. Curbelo emphasised the importance of supporting those in need, stating, “Caring for individuals who require assistance is a priority that is reflected in resources for care and support.”

Additional funds are earmarked for minors, individuals with disabilities, teleassistance, and women's support initiatives. In terms of sustainability, the budget includes €10.22 million, with projects such as the management of the Environmental Complex and the Clean Point receiving €4.1 million, and selective waste collection allocated €1 million. Furthermore, €1.3 million is set aside for solar panels and the acquisition of electric vehicles.

Mobility and infrastructure are also key budget areas, with €7.7 million for public transport and €7.9 million for infrastructure development. The budget includes €2.4 million for housing and €1.9 million for employment promotion. The combined areas of education, culture, heritage, youth, and sports will receive €7.7 million, with €1.8 million specifically for educational scholarships, alongside €80,000 for Erasmus, €400,000 for transport assistance, and €200,000 for textbooks.

In the economic sector, commerce and tourism are allocated €3.9 million, while industry promotion receives €3.6 million, and the primary sector is granted €2.3 million. The budget also includes €1 million in aid for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and another €1 million for the primary sector.

Economy and Finance Councillor Cristina Ventura explained that the initial approval by the Cabildo allows for the continued processing of the budget. “Once the amendment period concludes, the final approval of the budget will take place, allowing it to come into effect on 1 January 2027,” she detailed. Ventura highlighted the aim of ensuring that the institution has the necessary funds from the start of the fiscal year to implement planned actions and maintain services and support for citizens.
