The Ayuntamiento de Tres Cantos has announced an open call for the exhibition 'Afinidades', dedicated to the artistic and cultural legacy of the women creators of the Generation of 27. This initiative is part of the Constelación 27 programme, commemorating the centenary of the influential literary and artistic movement.
Artists are invited to submit up to two works, either individually or collectively, by 10 February 2027. The exhibition will take place in the Gutiérrez Montiel Hall from 5 March to 4 April 2027. It aims to create a dialogue between the legacy of the Generation of 27 and contemporary artistic proposals, showcasing a variety of techniques, languages, and creative perspectives.
The exhibition references the group known as 'Las Sinsombrero', which included notable figures such as Maruja Mallo, Concha Méndez, Ángeles Santos, María Zambrano, and Rosa Chacel. These artists played a significant role in the cultural and artistic renewal of their time.
Participation requirements
The call is open to women artists over the age of 18, who may participate as individuals or through exclusively female collectives. Proposals should connect with the creative spirit of the Generation of 27 from a contemporary perspective, drawing inspiration from its authors, works, events, or ideas. Various artistic disciplines are accepted, including painting, drawing, engraving, collage, photography, mixed media, and textile art, provided the pieces can be displayed on walls.
All submissions must be original, signed, and measure between 100 x 70 and 200 x 200 centimetres. Works that have previously won awards or been exhibited in Tres Cantos are not eligible.
Submission process
Interested artists must send their applications by 10 February 2027, to the email address igualdad@trescantos.es, with 'Afinidades. Exposición Mujeres' in the subject line. The documentation should include a completed registration form, technical information about the work, and a brief statement of no more than 200 words explaining its connection to the Generation of 27.
A committee of professionals from the artistic and cultural fields, appointed by the Concejalía de Familia e Igualdad, will evaluate the submissions based on technical quality, originality, thematic relevance, and adherence to the guidelines. Results will be communicated on 24 February.
The 'Afinidades' exhibition marks the beginning of Constelación 27, a series of municipal activities organised in collaboration with the cultural group Trazo Colectivo, celebrating the centenary of the Generation of 27 throughout the coming year.
