The theatrical adaptation of Eva Baltasar's first novel, directed by Victoria Szpunberg, will be presented this Friday, 6 November, at 20:00 in the Sala Gran of the Kursaal. ‘Permagel’ is a monologue performed by María Rodríguez Soto, based on the work of the Catalan author, who recently received the Médicis Étranger Prize for her novel ‘Ocàs i fascinació’.
Published in 2018, ‘Permagel’ became a literary phenomenon due to its direct voice and dark humour, tackling taboo subjects such as lesbian desire, masturbation, suicide, and motherhood with intelligence. The theatrical adaptation, created by Szpunberg and Albert Pijuan, retains the powerful essence of Baltasar's novel.
The play narrates the inner journey of a suicidal lesbian woman who challenges family, romantic love, and the very notion of survival. Through reading and sex, she seeks lifelines to confront an existence marked by clarity, fear, and a desire for freedom. Her poetic and painful voice aims to break the symbolic 'permagel' that keeps her distanced from life.
Tickets for ‘Permagel’ are priced at 22 euros, with discounts available: 15 euros for seniors over 65, 10 euros for Galliner cardholders, and 6 euros for those under 30. Tickets can be purchased at the Kursaal box office or online.
Accessible performance
The performance on Friday will feature projected subtitles and audio description via a sound amplification system. Individuals with visual impairments wishing to use the audio description service can request it by emailing or at the Kursaal box office on the day of the performance.
