The plaza de la Solidaridad and the park of la Marquesa will serve as the backdrop for the street theatre performance ‘fronteres’, organised by the company Teatro en Movimiento Callejerx and the association Mujeres Pa’Lante, in collaboration with the Calala Fondo de Mujeres foundation. The performance is the culmination of a series of open theatre workshops held in the streets of L'Hospitalet, with a general rehearsal taking place on Tuesday, 27 October, at the same venue where the performance will occur.
Ximena Cañas, artistic director of Teatro en Movimiento Callejerx, explained that “it is a performance that addresses migration and displacement. The initiative arises from a project called Cuerpos en Resonancia, which is a trilogy focusing on dissidence, work, and migration.”
Lorena Álvarez, spokesperson for Mujeres Pa’Lante, emphasised the importance of art and culture in their work, stating, “artistic action is a fundamental part of the development of women and the ability to create spaces, to be agents of themselves, and to have a voice in public spaces.”
This project has been made possible through the Fondos Radix, an initiative of the Calala Fondo de Mujeres foundation and the association Otro Tiempo, co-financed by the European Union. Manuela Sisti, communication and community engagement officer at Calala, clarified that “our work is to act as a bridge between funders and grassroots organisations that would otherwise not have access to traditional funding. These organisations include vulnerable collectives.”
The performance is scheduled for Saturday, 31 October, at midday and will also feature the participation of the batukada group Batu Kalla.
