Valdepeñas, a town in the Castilla-La Mancha region of Spain, will host the 30th International Sociology Congress from 13 to 17 November. The congress, organised by the Castilian-Manchegan Association of Sociology (ACMS) in partnership with the Valdepeñas City Council, is themed ‘Affirmations and regressions of democracy in a global world’.

Approximately 150 professionals and academics are expected to attend the event, which aims to position Valdepeñas as a ‘capital of knowledge’. Vanessa Irla, the town's Deputy Mayor for Culture, emphasised the significance of the congress for the local economy and community. “It is very important for Valdepeñas to become the capital of knowledge over the weekend of 13 to 15 November, with so many professionals coming to share their research and knowledge for the benefit of our society, as knowledge is what ultimately drives societal advancement,” she stated.

The congress will feature 21 working groups where research will be presented on various topics, including globalisation, population movement, social change, new generations, and the situation of the elderly, among others. Vicente José Benito Gil, President of the ACMS, remarked on the importance of the discussions that will take place: “We will debate first-order issues. It is a great message to convey that Valdepeñas will be the centre of international debate on problems that concern our society at all levels, from the highest to the most humble.”
