The Junta de Gobierno of the Zamora Provincial Council has announced a series of measures to strengthen the conservation of cultural heritage, promote traditional Zamorano customs, boost the provincial economy, and improve the resources available to the provincial fire service.
Among the agreements reached is the allocation of €60,000 in grants for the repair of the roof of the Permanent Information and Visitor Reception Centre for the Holy Week of Bercianos de Aliste. This funding will also support the development of the training programme at the Doña Urraca Dance School and promote Zamora as an attractive destination for living, entrepreneurship, investment, and creative projects.
Additionally, the council has approved the procurement of autonomous breathing apparatus, compressed air bottles, and a refilling compressor for the provincial fire service, with a budget of €53,555, including VAT.
The Zamora Provincial Council will collaborate with the San Mamed Cultural Association of Bercianos de Aliste through a nominative grant of €15,000 to partially fund the roof repair of the Permanent Information and Visitor Reception Centre. This project has a total budget of €17,089.51, including VAT, with the beneficiary association covering the remaining costs. This intervention will enhance the conservation and functionality of a cultural facility dedicated to interpreting, understanding, and disseminating one of the most representative expressions of the province's identity and traditions: the Holy Week of Bercianos de Aliste, which has been declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Interest.
Another agreement involves a partnership with the Doña Urraca Dance School Cultural Association to develop a training and intergenerational transmission programme for Zamorano dance and traditional culture in 2026. The provincial institution will contribute €25,000 to a programme with a total budget of €36,600, aimed at promoting the learning, practice, conservation, and transmission of dance, music, and other forms of provincial folklore among children and young people. Planned activities include stable training sessions, the acquisition of traditional music teaching instruments, and student participation in national and international folklore festivals, such as youth folklore meetings in Burgos, the National Children's Festival in Lorca, and an international festival in Croatia. The initiative aims to ensure generational continuity in the preservation of Zamorano traditions, encouraging children and young people to engage with and sustain the province's cultural heritage through education and active participation.
Furthermore, the Junta de Gobierno has approved a collaboration agreement with the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Zamora to develop the economic promotion strategy 'Zamora Destino Vital' in 2026, which will receive a provincial contribution of €20,000. The programme aims to position Zamora as an attractive area for living, investing, and developing artistic, cultural, and creative projects, contributing to talent attraction, opportunity generation, and combating depopulation.
Finally, in the area of fire prevention and extinguishing, the Junta de Gobierno has approved the procurement of open-circuit autonomous breathing equipment, compressed air bottles, and a compressor for refilling, intended for the Provincial Fire Prevention and Extinction Service. This contract has a budget of €53,555, including VAT.
