The Comú de Canillo has initiated discussions with landowners opposing the transfer of air rights necessary for the construction of the Pont Tibetà teleférico. The proposal involves a land swap, offering benefits in exchange for the necessary rights to proceed with the project.
Jordi Alcobé, a member of the Comú, emphasised the importance of dialogue over forced expropriations or declarations of general interest, which he described as lengthy, costly, and complex processes. One potential solution being considered is to treat the air rights for the teleférico as a mandatory concession should the landowners wish to develop the affected areas.
According to local law, any concession must range between 5% and 15% of the buildable area. The conflict arose when three landowners, linked to the camping site Casal, the Somiades land, and the Molí garage plot, submitted a formal objection, arguing that the proposed route would effectively constitute a forced expropriation. They refused to sign agreements for voluntary concessions, although one landowner has since reached an agreement with the Comú.
The project is currently at a standstill, awaiting a new meeting between the parties in the coming days. The Comú views the teleférico as a crucial element for boosting local tourism. Despite having commissioned the project design and management, physical construction remains contingent on finalising agreements.
The teleférico is planned to span 700 metres, with a vertical drop of 275 metres, and is expected to transport around 400 passengers per hour.
