Cross patronato municipal de deportes to attract over 700 runners in palencia

The Isla Dos Aguas Sports Complex in Palencia will be the venue for the 33rd edition of the Cross Patronato Municipal de Deportes on Sunday, 8 November. The event, which begins at 11:00 AM, will offer two circuits of 500 and 1,600 metres, suitable for runners with spike shoes, tailored to the distances of different categories.

This competition, part of the School Sports Games, includes ten categories ranging from pre-benjamins to participants over 45 years old. Orlando Castro, the councillor for Physical-Sporting Activity and Health, presented the event at the Palencia City Council alongside Francisco Caballero, coach of the Puentecillas Athletics Club, and José Antonio Pérez de Diego, technical coordinator of the Municipal Sports Patronage. Castro described the Cross as one of the “most emblematic events in the Palencia sports calendar, promoting grassroots sports and community for over three decades.”

He expressed gratitude for the involvement of the Club and the Athletics Federation of Castilla y León, noting that their “joint efforts” have ensured the event not only continues to grow but also remains a regional athletics benchmark. Castro encouraged the public to come and enjoy the “sporting and family atmosphere” at the Isla Dos Aguas Sports Complex, highlighting Palencia's commitment to sports and the values it represents.

Caballero praised the decision to change the event's location and confirmed that, following the closure of registrations, more than 700 participants are expected. The “most special” race will take place at 12:20 PM, where federated athletes will share the course with recreational runners over a distance of 3,700 metres. This popular cross is designed to be fast, comfortable, and family-friendly, taking place on a grass circuit.

Participants will collect their race numbers twenty minutes before the start of their respective events, with collection to be done by a delegate or representative. Prizes will be awarded to the top five finishers in each distance and gender for the promotional categories, while the top three in the popular categories will also receive awards. All participants in the pre and mini benjamin categories will receive a medal, presented after each race.
