Government highlights social commitment of ciudad real at national university tunas festival

The provincial delegate for sustainable development, Agustín Espinosa, has congratulated the Tuna Universitaria de Ciudad Real for the success of the second national university tunas festival, an initiative that filled the streets of the capital with music, joy, and colour over two days, merging university tradition with social commitment towards individuals affected by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Espinosa expressed the satisfaction of the Castilla-La Mancha government for supporting the development of this event, which brought together university groups from various regions of Spain, including Albacete, Ciudad Real, Córdoba, León, Madrid, and Sevilla. He noted that the festival showcased a centuries-old tradition of Spanish folklore and musical culture.

“It is a source of pride to have participated and contributed to an initiative that demonstrates how music and tradition can go hand in hand with social commitment. I want to congratulate the Tuna Universitaria de Ciudad Real for the success of this festival and thank everyone who made it possible,”
he stated.

The festivities began on Saturday, 24 October, with a parade through the streets of Ciudad Real. Each group then performed their songs at the gazebo in the Jardines del Prado, allowing the audience to enjoy the musical variety and the popular character of this university tradition. The event culminated in the afternoon with the festival held at the Teatro Quijano.

Espinosa expressed gratitude to the participating tunas, the organisers, and the audience, whose engagement contributed to the success of this second edition as a gathering for cultural exchange and community spirit. Alongside its cultural and festive dimension, he highlighted the charitable aspect of the festival, with proceeds going to the association VivELA to support individuals living with ALS and their families.

“The most important thing is that behind the music and celebration, there is a cause that deserves our full support. Every contribution counts and helps to raise awareness of ALS and support those facing this illness and their families,”
he added.

Espinosa concluded by thanking the Tuna Universitaria de Ciudad Real for promoting a proposal that combines culture, civic participation, and social commitment, emphasising the importance of initiatives that enrich the cultural life of the province and enhance the visibility of this disease.
