The municipal organisation Turismo LPA has arranged a thematic guided tour to celebrate the cultural and historical heritage surrounding the Finaos festival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This event also acknowledges the historical coexistence with the British community that has been present in the city since the early 19th century.

The activity, titled ‘Different traditions of Finaos in the Canary Islands’, is scheduled for Tuesday, 27 October, from 16:30 to 19:00, as reported by the local council.

The tour will begin at the entrance of Vegueta Cemetery and will end at the English Cemetery in the San José neighbourhood. Participants will gain a historical and comparative perspective on both cultures throughout the journey.

The guided tour will commence at 16:30 at Vegueta Cemetery, where attendees will learn about the nuances of local memory and tradition. Following this, participants will walk to the English Cemetery, where the visit will delve into the unique customs of the British community historically based in the capital.

To conclude the event at the English Cemetery, there will be a musical performance by a quartet of musicians who will explain traditional instruments associated with the Ranchos de Ánimas and perform pieces linked to this custom.

Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to sample traditional seasonal products, including piñones (pine nuts), chestnuts, dried figs, walnuts, apples, huesos de santo (sweet pastries), and the traditional anise.

The activity will be conducted in both Spanish and English and is limited to 25 participants. To secure a place and prevent no-shows, registration requires a refundable deposit of 5 euros.
