The Modern and Contemporary Art Museum of Santander and Cantabria (MAS) will host a new session of its artistic mediation cycle ‘Salita de Invitados’ on 20 October, dedicated to exploring the connections between fashion, textiles, and the museum's collection. The event, titled ‘Tejidos y Moda en la MAS Colección’, will take place from 18:30 to 19:30 and will feature Víctor J. Hurtado, a specialist in the History and Sociology of Fashion, who will provide a contemporary perspective on the museum's pieces through textile design and clothing.

Noemí Méndez, the Councillor for Culture, emphasised the potential of initiatives like ‘Salita de Invitados’ to broaden the interpretative possibilities of artworks and encourage public participation. She stated, “Fashion, design, music, and ecology offer us new tools to understand art and its relationship with society. In this sense, museums should be places of dialogue between disciplines, knowledge exchange, and discovery.”

During the session, Hurtado, who holds degrees in History and in Advertising and Public Relations, and is a graphic and textile designer specialising in sports fashion, will discuss various pieces from the MAS collection, using textiles and fashion as a starting point to offer new interpretations of the artworks and establish links between artistic creation and contemporary design.

This initiative is part of ‘Nuevas Narrativas’, the MAS's artistic mediation programme, which is structured into three distinct cycles and includes a total of ten sessions throughout the year. Specifically, ‘Salita de Invitados’ is the second of these cycles and includes four meetings, held on the third Tuesday of each month until December. Its main feature is the involvement of professionals from fields not traditionally associated with museum institutions, who bring their expertise to generate new readings of the artworks and facilitate engagement with diverse audiences.

Through disciplines such as design, ecology, and music, the programme aims to enhance the educational and cultural possibilities of the museum, as well as promote study, research, and dialogue with society. All activities in the programme are free, aimed at audiences of all ages, and require prior registration through the DidacArt website.
