Mascletà to conclude free concert by Hakuna in plaza de la Reina

The plaza de la Reina will host a 24-kilogram mascletà on Sunday, 25 October, fired by Pirotecnia Aitana, as part of the closing celebrations for the Holy Chalice Jubilee Year, which concludes on 29 October. This pyrotechnic display will wrap up the free concert by the musical group Hakuna, as announced by Paula Llobet, the councillor for Innovation, Tourism and Investments.

Llobet highlighted that the mascletà will serve as a grand finale to the Hakuna concert, stating, "This event will close Sunday’s activities with one of the most deeply rooted festive expressions of our city, as Valencia bids farewell to the Holy Chalice Jubilee Year." Santiago Ballester, the councillor for Fallas, added that the mascletà is a vital part of Valencia’s festive culture and identity.

The concert by Hakuna, a youth Catholic music movement and one of the prominent figures in Christian music in Spain, is scheduled for 12:30 hours in the plaza de la Reina. Llobet expressed that "Hakuna brings a message of faith and youth to Valencia, and we want everyone to enjoy it for free in the heart of the city." A designated area for people with reduced mobility will also be available at the concert.

It is important to note that the Valencia Half Marathon will also take place on the same day, which may affect traffic. The city council has announced that traffic access via Calle de la Paz will reopen at 11:03 hours.

Closing events for the Holy Chalice Jubilee Year

The closing programme for the Jubilee Year includes two concerts by the Valencia Orchestra. The first concert took place on Wednesday, 21 October, at the Cathedral, conducted by Alexander Liebreich, featuring the world premiere of David Moliner's piece, Katakomben, linked to the legacy of the Holy Grail. The second concert is scheduled for Friday, 20 November, at 19:30 hours, in the Sala Iturbi of the Palau de la Música, focusing on Wagner's opera Parsifal, with singers Elīna Garanča (mezzo) and Michael Weinius (tenor), under Liebreich's direction, and will also include Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 3, Renana.

Both concerts are part of the cultural programming by the Department of Culture and the Palau de la Música, which includes proposals related to the Holy Grail, a theme of significant relevance for the city during the Jubilee Year.

Religious events

The Archdiocese of Valencia has organised a liturgical programme, including an outdoor mass on Saturday, 24 October, in the plaza de la Virgen, where the Custody of the Holy Chalice will be displayed. Following the service, an eucharistic procession will take place to the Cathedral, where there will be a vigil and eucharistic adoration until midnight. The closing mass will be held on Thursday, 29 October, at 19:00 hours in the Cathedral of Valencia.

Llobet emphasised the importance of this commemorative year, stating, "Valencia has responded to this Jubilee Year with its people. This closure belongs to the entire city." Auxiliary Bishop of Valencia and president of the Jubilee Year Commission, Fernando Ramón, remarked that the Jubilee Year has been a time of grace for the Church of Valencia and for visitors to the Holy Chalice, inviting the city to come together in faith, culture, and hospitality.

Juan Melchor Seguí Seguí, the vicar of Evangelisation, noted that pilgrimages have come from parishes, schools, and groups from many countries, ensuring that each group finds a place for prayer and gathering in the Cathedral.
