The mayor of Vigo has expressed support for the Vigo Philharmonic Band following a meeting with its leadership to explore avenues for institutional collaboration. “We will walk this path together, supporting their concerts and continuing to promote the city’s culture,” the mayor stated after his discussions with Juan Carlos Díaz Álvarez, the artistic director of the band; musician Adrián Viñas; and Ángel Montes, who is associated with various musical groups in the city.
Founded in December 2024, the Vigo Philharmonic Band is currently planning its third season, aiming to establish a high-level ensemble that allows conservatory graduates to perform more challenging and quality repertoires. The mayor highlighted the “enormous training of Vigo’s musicians,” noting that after completing their education, “they need a band to exercise their professional skills.” As such, the municipal government will support the Philharmonic Band similarly to its backing of Orquesta 430, the Orquesta Clásica, nine music bands, 40 choirs, Coral Casablanca, and the Mayeusis concerts.
