The Museum of the University of Alicante (MUA) will inaugurate the exhibition Silence and resonance: The inner landscape of contemporary ink on Friday, 6 November, at 12:00. This showcase features the work of Chinese artist Chen Xiaoqi, who merges traditional Chinese ink and brush painting with modern design sensibilities and contemporary art languages.
Chen's work navigates the realms of figuration and abstraction, tradition and modernity, as well as Eastern aesthetics and Western visual experiences. His creations embody "sensitivity, poetry, and lyricism, while providing a strong visual impact and multiple interpretative possibilities." Through his art, the artist explores themes such as nature, memory, and the relationship between humans and their environment, according to the university's art gallery.
The centrepiece of the exhibition is a monumental ink painting on paper, measuring 13 metres wide and 2.5 metres high, in which Chen invites the audience to "immerse themselves in a universe of strength, movement, and silence." The exhibition also includes a selection of landscapes from Alicante, interpreted through the artist's unique perspective, reflecting his personal approach to the environment and territory.
Chen Xiaoqi holds a degree in Chinese Painting from the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and a master's degree in Design from Dongmyung University in South Korea. He has taught at various universities in China for twenty years and currently resides and works in Alicante.
The exhibition is free to the public and will be on display in the MUA's multipurpose room until 15 December 2026.
