Vigo to host IYI Meeting 2026 for Galician researchers in the diaspora

Vigo will once again serve as a meeting point for Galician research talent working abroad. On 29 December, the Redeiras building at the University of Vigo will host the sixteenth edition of the IYI Meeting (Young Galician Researchers Abroad), a day aimed at fostering knowledge exchange, collaboration networks, and connections between the Galician scientific community developing their careers outside Galicia and researchers currently working within the Galician R&D system.

Organised by CINBIO, the Centre for Research in Nanomaterials and Biomedicine at the University of Vigo and part of the Cigus Network, the event will take advantage of the return of numerous Galician researchers during the holiday season to provide a space for dialogue, scientific dissemination, and reflection on the future of research in Galicia.

This new edition of the IYI Meeting aims to establish itself as a reference forum for creating bridges between professionals working in universities, research centres, and companies across various countries and those working from Galicia, promoting new scientific collaborations and contributing to the debate on the challenges and opportunities facing the Galician research ecosystem in an increasingly international context.

“In addition to highlighting the research activities of the Galician scientific diaspora, the meeting will provide an opportunity to showcase programmes, calls, and opportunities related to talent return, one of the aspects that traditionally generates the most interest among participants,” emphasises Rubén González, a researcher at CINBIO and a member of the organising committee.

The event is open to Galician researchers developing their careers both within and outside the autonomous community, as well as students and professionals interested in learning about the experience of international research mobility. Participants will have the opportunity to present their work through brief communications or attend various scheduled sessions as an audience.

Attendance at the event will be free, although prior registration will be required through a form provided by the organisers. The registration period will remain open until 4 December, after which the final programme for the day will be prepared and published.
