Fifteenth folklore festival Pedro Ramos to introduce new features

The fifteenth edition of the Pedro Ramos Folklore Festival is set to showcase several new features. Scheduled for Sunday, 15 November, the event will commence at 12:30 PM in Los Conquistadores Park, a venue chosen to enhance the festive atmosphere for attendees.

Ana Mansanet, the Councillor for Culture, emphasised the importance of this cultural event, which celebrates local roots and traditions. She noted that it is organised by a dynamic and participatory group, the Association of Friends of the Villanovense Choir and Folklore.

Fran Aragoneses, president of the association, explained that the festival's new location aims to create a more popular and festive environment. This year, the festival will feature the Agrupación Musical Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno, which will perform well-known songs that resonate with local traditions.

Additionally, the invited group Araval from Valdelacalzada, a young ensemble dedicated to researching, preserving, and promoting Extremadura's musical traditions and folklore, will also perform. The host group, Cogolla, will present popular local songs while dressed in traditional attire.

Another highlight of the festival will be the presentation of the 'Encina de Plata' award, now in its ninth year. This accolade recognises individuals, institutions, or groups that have made significant contributions to folklore, culture, and popular knowledge. This year, the award will be presented to Manuel Canseco Godoy, director of 'Alboreá rondas de bodas', who will accept the honour in person during the festival.
