The mayor of A Coruña, Inés Rey, visited HC Liceo on Friday at the Palacio de Deportes de Riazor to convey the support and affection of the entire city as the team embarks on a new season. This visit comes ahead of the much-anticipated match on Sunday at 12:00, where the Coruña team will face FC Barcelona, one of the highlights of the league calendar.
Accompanied by the city’s sports councillor, Manuel Vázquez, Rey highlighted the club's history and commitment as a significant sporting reference for A Coruña, embodying the values of effort, perseverance, and resilience. She recalled the disappointing end to the previous season, where Liceo narrowly missed out on the league title in their last home match, and delivered a message of confidence to the players for the upcoming season.
"Liceo is a source of pride for the city. We know that the end of last season was a tough blow, but this team has shown many times that it knows how to rise and try again. I am convinced that it will do so once more," she stated.
Rey also called on the local fans to support the team from the outset, urging them to fill the Palacio de Deportes and create an atmosphere of encouragement for the new verdibranco project. "This Sunday, we all need to be with Liceo. We want to see the Palacio full, cheering, pushing, and demonstrating that A Coruña stands behind its team. The players need to feel that they are not alone and that an entire city is playing alongside them," she emphasised.
The match against FC Barcelona, which marks the first home game of the league season, presents another opportunity for fans to showcase the special bond between Liceo and the city, a relationship built over decades of sporting success and support from the stands. "Last year we came very close, but this team has ambition, talent, and the ability to fight for everything. Now it’s up to us: to fill the Palacio and carry the team forward," concluded Inés Rey.
The Concello de A Coruña encourages all citizens to attend on Sunday at 12:00 at the Palacio de Deportes de Riazor to support HC Liceo as they aim to elevate the name of A Coruña in the world of roller hockey once again.
