Recolectores Teatro is staging the play '¡Viva Juana! La mujer y la ciudad', which highlights the life and significance of artist Juana Francés. This production is a collaboration with the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Alicante (MACA) and the Culture Department, supported by the Generalitat Valenciana. The performance aims to engage approximately a thousand students.
The play has now reached the midpoint of its tour in schools across Alicante. It will be performed this Friday at IES 8 de Marzo, following previous shows at IES Las Lomas and Jorge Juan. Upcoming performances include IES Playa San Juan on Monday, 23 November, IES San Blas on 30 November, and Centro Social Garbinet for students from IES Jaime II on 4 December.
This theatrical initiative seeks to celebrate the legacy of Juana Francés, a pivotal figure in contemporary art whose significant international career has often been overlooked. She was the only female founder of the influential group El Paso.
The play, written by Juan Diego Cerdá and directed by Iván Jiménez, features a fragmented narrative structure. Actresses Sara Torra and Merce Capdevila portray the artist, while the production incorporates musical creation and soundscapes by Carlos López, costume design by Sara Torra, and scenic design by the studio J de Juanes, which translates the painter's visual strength into theatrical language.
