The Chiclana Museum will host the presentation of Miguel Pasquau's book 'El oficio de decidir' on Saturday, 7 November, starting at 12:00 PM. This essay, stemming from Pasquau's extensive judicial experience, explores critical questions such as how to determine a defendant's guilt and how to prevent the wrongful conviction of an innocent person.
The event is part of the 'Universo Quiñones' series organised by the Fernando Quiñones Foundation in Chiclana. It will be introduced by Alicia Ferrándiz and Juan José Téllez, and entry is free until capacity is reached.
Having served over twenty years as a magistrate at the High Court of Justice of Andalusia, Miguel Pasquau has an in-depth understanding of the complexities involved in judicial decision-making. In his book, the seasoned Spanish judge demystifies the profession, highlighting its deeply human aspects, where even the smallest mistake can have life-altering consequences, and where the outcomes hinge on the pursuit of justice.
Through his experiences and insights into the inner workings of the courtroom, Pasquau provides readers with a comprehensive guide to what unfolds during trials, detailing how deliberations occur among judges and the dynamics with lawyers. He also outlines various malpractice issues and influences that can affect the judicial process, while contemplating the future of the justice system.
Born in Úbeda in 1959, Pasquau is not only a magistrate but also a law professor and novelist. A jurist by profession and a writer by passion, he has authored over a hundred newspaper articles and runs the blog 'Es peligroso asomarse.'
