The Casino de Llanes will host a captivating recital featuring piano and castanets on Saturday, 7 November 2026, at 19:30. This event is part of the Llanes en Danza festival and is included in the Encuentro Con Los Maestros 2026 programme.
Under the title El amor brujo, performers Maribel Gallardo and Alberto San Quirico will explore the dialogue between the two instruments through a repertoire that merges concert music with dance, ballet, and zarzuela, a Spanish lyric-dramatic genre.
The recital will showcase thirteen pieces from renowned composers, including Granados, Soler, Halffter, Mateo, Isaac Albéniz, Haendel, Vives, Falla, and Giménez. Notable works featured include the Intermezzo de Goyescas by Granados, Danza de la pastora by Halffter, and selections from Albéniz's Sevilla, Rumores de la Caleta, and Castilla. The castanets will provide a unique voice, adding rhythm and expressiveness to the piano's melodies.
Artists' backgrounds
Maribel Gallardo is a prominent figure in Spanish dance, having joined the Ballet Nacional de España in 1981 and becoming a principal dancer in 1985. She has served as a répétiteur for the company since 2002 and was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts in 2021. This recital will allow the audience to experience her talent as a castanet performer.
Alberto San Quirico holds a Superior Degree in Piano from the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, graduating with honours. He has specialised in Spanish nationalist repertoire and has focused on Spanish dance since 2009. San Quirico is a pianist and a faculty member at the Conservatorio Superior de Danza María de Ávila, where he combines performance, teaching, and research.
Encuentro Con Los Maestros initiative
This recital is part of the Encuentro Con Los Maestros project, established in 2017 and directed by cultural manager María Herrera. The initiative, supported by the Asociación MJH Diferencias Educativas, aims to connect young artists with masters of dance and music through residencies, workshops, and performance opportunities. The public programme is also linked to the Ibero-American Festival Ribadedeva En Danza, promoting the arts across diverse audiences.
