Santander hosts national tour of the 2026 World Cup trophy

The Reception Hall of Santander City Hall has opened its doors to host the national tour 'Kings of the World', which runs today and tomorrow. Organised by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), the tour aims to bring the trophy won by the Spanish national football team last summer in the United States closer to the public, after they triumphed over Argentina in the final with a score of 1-0.

Mayor Gema Igual, accompanied by the President of the Government of Cantabria, María José Sáenz de Buruaga; RFEF President Rafael Louzán; President of the Cantabrian Football Federation, José Ángel Peláez; and Councillor for Sports, Beatriz Pellón, inaugurated the exhibition.

This showcase is part of a journey through various Spanish cities, aiming to share the sporting success of the national team and offer fans the chance to see the world’s most prestigious football trophy up close. “It is particularly beautiful that a space where we usually celebrate institutional events, recognitions, and significant occasions for Santander now hosts a trophy that represents a joy shared by the entire country,” remarked the mayor.

Igual highlighted the significance of Santander being part of this celebration and joining the cities hosting the World Cup trophy. “It is gratifying to continue opening our municipal spaces to initiatives that generate excitement, encourage community participation, and uphold our commitment to sport,” she emphasised.

She specifically addressed the younger audience, encouraging all children who play football to enjoy the visit and remember that great athletes become so after many years of learning, effort, and hard work. “Enjoy this visit, keep practising the sport you love, and remember that great athletes reach their level after years of learning, effort, and hard work,” she stressed.

The exhibition, open today until 20:00 and tomorrow from 10:00 to 20:00 without interruption, allows visitors to relive the most significant moments of the tournament through an audiovisual experience and various elements related to the participation of Spanish players in the competition. This initiative represents an opportunity to bring sport closer to the public, promote social participation, and highlight the principles of effort, coexistence, teamwork, and camaraderie. The exhibition will remain open to the general public, allowing any fan the chance to view the trophy.
