The Junta de Extremadura has announced the allocation of €218,381 for the conservation of historical and cultural heritage in smaller municipalities and local entities. This funding marks a significant milestone as it is the first time the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports has launched a competitive grant programme of this nature.
The primary aim is to provide local councils with technical and management tools to safeguard their monumental legacy and enhance its cultural dynamism.
Funding details
The funds are divided into two key areas for heritage intervention:
- Line 2: Allocated €136,681, this line finances the drafting of technical project plans and the development of management plans, which are essential for undertaking structural interventions or restorations on protected assets.
- Line 3: With €81,700, this line focuses on the management, dynamisation, and viability planning of historical properties, ensuring their long-term sustainability and enjoyment by the public.
The resolutions for both funding lines have been published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura, in numbers 212 and 211.
Local response
The response from local administrations highlights the interest and necessity for these grants, with a total of 33 municipalities in Extremadura submitting applications (19 from Badajoz and 14 from Cáceres). Following the evaluation process, 79% of the accepted local entities have been awarded funding, translating to 19 municipalities receiving direct financial support for their proposed projects.
This funding package reaffirms the Junta de Extremadura's commitment to municipalism and the protection of the region's historical wealth, providing both technical and financial support to smaller towns in preserving their cultural identity.
