Tomás Vidal and Dúo Ebenum win first Joaquín Turina chamber music competition

Pianist Tomás Vidal has won the first prize at the inaugural Joaquín Turina Chamber Music and Soloist Competition, which includes a cash award of €6,000 and the opportunity to perform at the Espacio Turina in Seville. The Dúo Ebenum, consisting of Arabela de Miguel and Claudia Fernández, secured the second prize of €3,000, along with a special award for the best interpretation of a work by Joaquín Turina, valued at €1,600.

The competition, organised by the Tourism and Culture Department of the Seville City Council, aims to support young musicians and preserve the legacy of Joaquín Turina, a prominent Spanish composer known for his contributions to classical music.

Angie Moreno, the delegate for Tourism and Culture, emphasised the significance of this initiative in providing opportunities for young performers and promoting Turina's music. The third prize, worth €2,000, was awarded to organist and harpsichordist Guido García, while the fourth prize of €1,000 went to the duo of Enric Moya and Duarte Soares. The fifth prize, amounting to €800, was awarded to Trío Ipse, and the sixth prize of €600 was given to Cuarteto Rucca.

The final auditions took place on 23 and 24 October at the Espacio Turina and the Church of the Hospital of the Venerables, with support from Juventudes Musicales de Sevilla and the Cathedral Chapter of Seville. The jury, chaired by composer José Luis Turina, evaluated the participants' performances, recognising their technical quality and expressive ability.

With this first edition, the Seville City Council reinforces its commitment to classical music and the support of young performers, promoting the musical heritage of Seville through the work of Joaquín Turina.
