The world tapas championship, 'Ciudad de Valladolid', is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a series of initiatives that highlight a decade of achievements, international recognition, and contributions to culinary promotion.
The Valladolid Confectioners' Association is participating in the festivities by creating an exclusive cake made with Oliduero olive oil, which will be available for purchase until 15 November.
Commemorative book and cake
Among the key highlights is the publication of the book '10 años de cultura de la tapa', a commemorative work that chronicles the history of the championship from its inception. Written by chef Jasbir Kaur and promoted by e-Spain in collaboration with the Valladolid City Council and sponsored by the Interprofessional Association of Spanish Olive Oil, the book reviews the evolution of the world tapas championship and includes stories and recipes from the winners of its first nine editions, along with ten creations contributed by the presidents of each edition, including this year's president, Mario Sandoval.
Importantly, the book has a charitable aspect; proceeds from its sales will go towards the creation of the 'Campeonato Mundial de Tapas de Valladolid' scholarships, aimed at helping women from around the world studying culinary arts to access professional internship programmes in Spain.
Exclusive cake and local participation
The celebration also extends to local bakeries with the 'X aniversario del Campeonato Mundial de Tapas' cake. Made with dark chocolate, salt flakes, and a choux pastry base, the cake features Oliduero's extra virgin olive oil as a key ingredient. This sweet treat offers a combination of flavours and textures that embodies the creative and innovative spirit of the championship.
Twelve establishments in the city are participating in this initiative, including El Bombón, Confitería Menta y Chocolate, Confitería Ricardo Blanco, and Pastelería La Francesa. The cake will be available at all these locations until 15 November, providing both locals and visitors the chance to join in the celebration through this exclusive culinary offering.
International recognition and further initiatives
The special programme for this tenth edition includes additional initiatives that reflect the international reach of the world tapas championship. Notably, a commemorative video has been produced, showcasing key moments from regional and national competitions held in 2026 across five continents, highlighting the expansion of tapas culture and the championship's global presence.
Moreover, an exclusive jacket featuring the tenth anniversary logo has been designed for contestants and jury members of this edition, and a Wikipedia page has been created to compile the championship's history, evolution, and achievements over the past decade.
Through these initiatives, Valladolid commemorates a decade of the world tapas championship, a project that has significantly contributed to the international projection of Spanish gastronomy and strengthened the city's connection to tapas culture.
