Chiclana council allocates €56,000 to local brotherhoods

The mayor of Chiclana, José María Román, and the president of the Local Council of Brotherhoods and Cofradías, Antonio González, have signed two collaboration agreements that will see the municipality allocate a total of €56,000 to the council. The signing ceremony was attended by the delegates for Community Services and Festivities, Mª Ángeles Martínez Rico and Fede Díaz, as well as members of the council's permanent board.

These agreements aim to foster cultural, associative, and recreational activities that promote cultural and popular initiatives throughout the year. During the meeting, Mayor Román expressed gratitude to the council and the various brotherhoods for their year-round efforts, stating, “Thanks to this agreement, we achieve a significant consolidation of Holy Week and the council itself.”

He highlighted the collaborative efforts that have established a notable presence in the provincial cofrade (brotherhood) scene, noting the addition of new events, such as one planned by the Vera Cruz Brotherhood for the following year. “We can feel satisfied with the climate of dialogue and collaboration that allows us to have a Holy Week that grows year after year, with recognition from the public,” he added.

Antonio González, in turn, thanked the Chiclana council for its commitment to the Brotherhoods Council. He noted that the agreements have expanded over the years, stating, “On behalf of all the brotherhoods and cofradías, I want to thank the Chiclana council for its collaboration.”

One of the allocations will cover expenses for the warehouse, which houses some brotherhoods unable to fit into the council's headquarters. González emphasised that “few cities can enjoy the facilities we have in Chiclana, all in collaboration with the council.”

The funding is divided into two parts: €16,000 for the maintenance and rental of the council's warehouse, and €40,000 for managing subsidies for brotherhoods and cofradías. This funding will cover expenses for activities, promotional materials, contracts for music bands, public events, official procession decorations, and managing subsidies for various brotherhoods in areas such as wax, floral arrangements, music bands, and groups for processional outings.

This agreement aims to enhance collaboration between both parties, promoting and developing activities through each of the brotherhoods and cofradías that make up the council, including the Cofradía de la Borriquita, Hermandad de la Humildad y Paciencia, Cofradía de los Afligidos, and others, throughout 2026. In this way, the agreement encourages cultural, recreational, and leisure associations aimed at organising activities that promote the popular cultural expressions enriching the local heritage.
