The Provincial Council of Cáceres has announced an investment of 450,000 euros to equip the Queen Bee Breeding Centre in Las Hurdes. This decision was revealed by the council's president, Miguel Ángel Morales, during the opening of the twelfth edition of APITHUR, which runs from 6 to 8 November in Caminomorisco.
APITHUR is a significant event for the region, featuring technical discussions for industry professionals, a honey competition, and cultural activities suitable for all ages. Morales emphasised the council's “tangible and ongoing” commitment to key sectors in northern Cáceres, including beekeeping, mountain olive cultivation, tourism, small businesses, and self-employed individuals. He stated that institutional support is demonstrated through actions and budgets, not just words.
In addition to the funding for the Queen Bee Breeding Centre, which is being constructed in the hamlet of Robledo (Pinofranqueado) with funds from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition (MITECO), the council is also contributing 25,000 euros to APITHUR. Morales also highlighted the council's backing for the Cáceres beekeeping sector's participation in the World Beekeeping Congress (Apimondia), scheduled to take place in Dubai from 15 to 19 November 2027.
The morning session concluded with visits from officials to exhibitors and performances by participants from the Municipal School “El Paleo” and the Drum School of Mesegal. The fair is organised by the Town Hall of Caminomorisco and is funded by the local action group ADIC Hurdes, the Provincial Council of Cáceres, the Regional Government of Extremadura, and Caja Almendralejo.
This year's APITHUR promises a packed programme throughout the weekend, further establishing Las Hurdes as a hub for the beekeeping industry and local nature and cultural tourism. The event brings together producers, distributors, and experts in a commercial exhibition area that showcases the sector.
