On Saturday, 7 November, Pilar Pradells Square in Torreforta, located in front of the Civic Centre, will once again host the Ponent al Carrer festival. This second edition is organised by the SPASA cooperative, with support from the Tarragona City Council.
The festival aims to strengthen the identity and cohesion of the neighbourhood through open and accessible culture for all. It has been organised with the involvement of a core group of local residents of various ages and backgrounds, who have contributed to the programme's development.
The day will kick off at 10:30 am with a free chocolate event. At 11:00 am, the Guga & Silvia company will present Here we go!, a circus show that plays with the glamour of 1990s circuses, suitable for all audiences. At noon, Cia Obravista will perform Coworkers, an unscripted street theatre piece about three unemployed workers who, with humour and energy, create their best work: a smile.
At 1:30 pm, the Silok group will provide the soundtrack for the vermut with a rumba concert. Lunch will be available at 2:30 pm, with options for sandwiches or bringing food from home to share with the community. At 3:30 pm, Cafè d'Alger will offer a post-lunch concert featuring classics of Algerian popular music, in the chaâbi genre, blending with reggae and rocksteady in Catalan, French, Arabic, and Amazigh.
Finally, at 5:00 pm, Cia Las Kakofonicas will close the festival with La inauguración, a hilarious street theatre performance involving audience participation.
A new feature this year is the introduction of a passport that collects stamps for each activity attended. Those who complete the passport will be entered into a draw for products from local shops.
Ponent al Carrer was launched last year as an initial engagement with the Torreforta neighbourhood, culminating in a week of open creative workshops that involved nearly 200 participants. This year, the festival has been shaped by a core group of local residents who have met regularly to collaboratively develop the proposal since spring. Ponent al Carrer is a project of SPASA, supported by the Tarragona City Council, the Office of Support for Cultural Initiatives, and the Department of Culture of the Generalitat of Catalonia.
