As part of the Year of Gaudí, the Education and Citizenship departments in Reus have initiated an educational programme for students in I5 (five-year-olds) and 6th grade of primary school, aimed at introducing them to the life and works of Antoni Gaudí.
The activities began on 4 November and will continue until the end of the year, taking place at the Gaudí Centre. They combine heritage, creativity, and experiential learning.
Activities for younger students
For I5 students, the programme includes “Gaudí, the man who spoke with dragons.” This activity features puppet theatre, fantasy, and heritage, introducing children to Gaudí's childhood in Reus. Following the performance, children will explore the Gaudí Centre, linking characters and elements from the show to the real world of Gaudí. This initiative encourages curiosity, imagination, and observation of nature, while also providing an introduction to theatre, puppetry, and local heritage.
Workshops for older students
For 6th grade students, the workshop “Discovering Gaudí” will take place. This activity combines a visit to the Gaudí Centre with a creative workshop to explore Gaudí's figure, his works, and the sources of inspiration found in nature. Through observation and participation, students will learn about key elements of Gaudí's universe and the relationship between nature, architecture, and creativity. The programme culminates in decorating a salamander inspired by the Dragon of Park Güell, fostering artistic experimentation, imagination, and personal expression.
These activities will engage around a thousand students, providing educational centres with an opportunity for active and participatory learning about the most universal figure associated with Reus, while also connecting them to heritage, culture, and creativity. The initiative targets these age groups as they coincide with the end of two educational stages. Consequently, the content, methodology, and objectives have been tailored to each level: for younger children, the focus is on discovering Gaudí through imagination and play; for older students, a more reflective and creative approach to his legacy is adopted.
