On 31 October 2026, the 'Antonio Caba' pavilion hosted manzanares' first boxing event, attracting a significant audience who enjoyed twelve amateur bouts. This occasion marked a special moment for the local sports community, as it was the first time residents could witness a boxing gala without leaving their town.
The pavilion underwent a transformation to accommodate a boxing ring, where participants showcased their skills over nearly three hours. The matches featured thrilling bouts across various categories and weight classes, ranging from schoolboys under 46 kilograms to elite fighters under 75 kilograms. Spectators, seated in over two hundred chairs arranged around the ring and in the stands, cheered enthusiastically, especially for local fighters such as Samuel Manzanares from Team Puma and Fabio Fernández and Alejandro Pastor from the Ojos de Tigre Boxing Club.
The event was graced by the presence of boxing legends Javier Castillejo and Alfredo Evangelista, who watched the matches from the front row. During the intermission, they were honoured with a heartfelt tribute, recognising their status as prominent figures in Spanish boxing.
The sports department of the manzanares town hall, in collaboration with the Ojos de Tigre Boxing Club, the Redención promoter, and Team Puma, played a crucial role in making this event possible. All parties expressed their satisfaction with the event's success, indicating a desire to make this a recurring occasion in the town. Laura Carrillo, the local councillor for sports, remarked, "We are very pleased with the reception this event has received. We hope it encourages the citizens of manzanares to take an interest in boxing."
