Tourism department organises ‘clay, fire and memory’ workshop in Molina de Segura

The Tourism Department of Molina de Segura is set to host the workshop ‘Clay, fire and memory’ on Sunday, 18 October, from 11.30am to 1.30pm at the Horno del Concejo and Casa del Folclore, located in the historic Barrio del Castillo.

This family-oriented event focuses on clay and traditional craftsmanship, allowing participants to engage in modelling and create their own pieces inspired by the heritage and traditions of Molina de Segura.

Pilar Galindo, the local councillor for tourism, emphasised that “this activity is an opportunity to highlight our artisanal traditions and cultural heritage, making them accessible to families in an educational, creative, and enjoyable manner. Through initiatives like ‘Clay, fire and memory’, we aim to promote awareness of our traditional crafts, pass on our cultural legacy to new generations, and showcase emblematic spaces such as the Horno del Concejo and Casa del Folclore, which are integral to our municipality's history and identity.”

To participate in the workshop, prior registration is essential. Interested individuals can sign up via a QR code. For further information, inquiries can be made by emailing coordinacion.adyso@gmail.com or by calling 641 600 982 (ADYSO, the company managing the programme). About the Horno del Concejo and Casa del Folclore

This unique example of popular architecture from the 17th and 18th centuries is situated in the Barrio del Castillo and was established following the restoration of the oldest oven in the city: the Horno del Castillo. The building retains much of its original structure, constructed using traditional rammed earth techniques, and features the impressive dome of its Moorish oven.

The museum employs interactive methods and modern museography to showcase key aspects of the baking profession, alongside displays highlighting local folklore.

Museum rooms

  • Bread Room: This area discusses the architecture, history, and stories of the oven and its people.
  • Audiovisual Room: An immersive audiovisual presentation is projected on the walls and the extraordinary dome of the oven, depicting the tireless work of the baker who kneads dough night after night.
  • Folklore Room: This space features traditional rounds, dances, and sounds, allowing visitors to experience the rich folklore of Molina de Segura.
  • Well Room: The cistern serves as a meeting point for traditional houses in the orchard.
