‘Amor al Teatro’ will present the comedy ‘El barbero de Picasso’ on Saturday, 17 October, at 20:00 in the Teatro Villa de Molina, located at Avenida del Chorrico, nº 10. Tickets are priced at 22 euros.
This performance is subsidised through the Platea programme of the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM). ‘El barbero de Picasso’ is a humorous play that explores the well-known friendship between the Málaga-born painter Pablo Picasso and his barber Eugenio Arias in Vallauris, France, starting from 1948.
The play highlights cultural clashes among exiled individuals in France who engage in lively discussions about bullfighting, politics, and art, prompting reflections on their past and the challenges of communication. Director Chiqui Carabante describes the work: “El Barbero de Picasso is a comedy of characters who passionately experience what could seem like madness to anyone else. This occurs because they are genuinely Spanish. The barbershop depicted by Borja in ‘El barbero de Picasso’ is an anarchic piece of Spain lost in southern France. Within this microcosm, Picasso and the barber are Spaniards who feel nostalgia for a homeland that no longer exists and will never exist again. A homeland they construct through their discussions and customs, debating whether a bullfighter is better or worse, or whether a goat is the appropriate gift for the genius of Picasso, while someone attempts to mock him. This barbershop is a world full of passions and contradictions that exists only between those scissors and brushes.”
The cast includes Antonio Molero, Pepe Viyuela, Mar Calvo, and José Ramón Iglesias. Tickets can be purchased in advance from Monday to Friday at the Teatro's offices (Avenida del Chorrico, nº 10) or by calling 968 64 02 68 between 09:00 and 14:00. Tickets are also available at the theatre box office on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 17:00 to 19:00, and two hours before each performance.
